INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM on

HEAVY VEHICLE TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY

HVTT16: Qingdao, China, 13 – 16 October 2020


The International Forum for Road TransportTechnology (IFRTT) and Research Institute of Highway (RIOH) Ministry ofTransport of China are proud to present the 16th International Symposium onHeavy Vehicle Transport Technology (HVTT16). This conference provides a uniqueforum for legislators, road administrators, academics, consultants, vehiclemanufacturers and suppliers, transport organizations and transport operators todiscuss and exchange ideas on ways to improve the safety, efficiency,productivity and sustainability of the road transport industry. We expect to have delegates from all aroundthe world including Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Europe, NorthAmerica and Oceania. In common with previous symposia, the format will includeplenary sessions, parallel technical sessions and evening social events formore informal interactions. The opportunity to exchange ideas with fellowdelegates has always been a highlight of these Symposia.


Throughout the world, countries are facedwith a growing freight task. This presents significant challenges in terms ofcongestion, sustainability, environmental impact and safety. Approaches toaddressing these challenges vary widely from country to country and reflectboth the local situation and community expectations. Productivity, safety andsustainability gains can be achieved through Intelligent Transport Systems,enhanced logistics, vehicle technology developments, inter-modal operations,increased size and weight, Performance Based Standards etc. The optimal mix ofapproaches varies from country to country. The actual mix of approaches thatoccurs is driven by policy and legislation.


Previous symposia have been held in Canada,England, United States, Australia, the Netherlands, South Africa, France,Sweden, Argentina and New Zealand. HVTT16 will be the first time it has beenheld in China and also in Asia. The host city, Qingdao is one of the firstcoastal open cities in China and is a leading city in the core area of the blueeconomic zone of Shandong peninsula. The port of Qingdao is the eighth largestport in the world and thus Qingdao is a major transport hub. The city is famousfor its Tsing Dao beer.
